In the middle of struggles...

Disclaimer: nothing to do with weight loss today...so bare with me :)

Over the last 5-6 months I've heard of tragedy in many peoples lives. It's the kind of news that no one ever wants to hear or deal with. The picture I posted with this blog today was sent to me a few months ago, it's of a little boy receiving the American flag because either his mother or father had died serving our country. His face speaks volumes for all of us that one time or another had to receive a gift of appreciation in the midst of overwhelming sadness. But also his face reflects how we often try to put on such a brave face to get through the most difficult situations....

Almost 6 years ago my grandfather passed away. He lived a good life, a full life and at the end of his life the United States presented my dad with the American flag, "thanking" my grandfather for the service to defending our country. I have witnessed this twice in my life and both times it impacted my life. So much symbolism in that very act of presenting the flag, it represents the protection of our country, the freedom that we do often take for granted.

Each time I hear of someone else dealing with tragedy or uncertainty because they've lost a loved one....I pray. I close my eyes and in silence of my thoughts and heart I pray....

Make this day one that will be memorable
